No-exam life insurance

Eligibility rules, the mechanics of the process, and what happens when you don't qualify for accelerated approval.

Accelerated underwriting is available from many carriers now. If you meet their age and coverage limits, they can approve you based on your application, prescription records, driving history and other data—no paramedical exam necessary. Approval can arrive within a day. Every quote here indicates whether the carrier will need an exam, might request one, or doesn't require one.

What it changes

Accelerated underwriting doesn't skip the vetting process. Your answers get checked, and a policy issued based on false information can be challenged for two years. If the carrier's background checks turn up issues, they may request an exam or labs anyway—at which point you can decide to proceed or stop.

Who tends to qualify

Generally, you'll qualify if you're under about 60, applying for coverage within the carrier's accelerated limits, have no significant health issues and haven't used tobacco in at least the past year. A few carriers will use recent blood work from a doctor's visit instead of requiring a new exam.

If an exam is required, a paramedic will visit your home or workplace in the Beaumont area and spend 20 to 30 minutes taking measurements and samples at no cost to you. For healthy applicants, the exam outcome often improves your rate class, so it's not necessarily a drawback.
